Marine Environment Research Programs
Leveraging our forward-looking capabilities in marine environmental monitoring, engineering impact assessment, and ecological compensation planning, the Center has long conducted in-depth scientific assessments targeting nearshore environmental changes, improvements in novel aquaculture facilities, environmental impact events, and international conservation exchanges. We provide critical, evidence-based decision-making foundations for marine environmental protection and cross-border sustainable development.
Core Research Directions:
I. Novel Aquaculture Facilities and Environmental Sustainability Assessment
-
Integrating the promotion experience of innovative floating-raft oyster racks, this study delves into the "fouling characteristics of exotic species and algae" on novel oyster rack materials and assesses the feasibility pathways for recycling and reusing abandoned oyster racks.
-
By conducting "extreme state analysis against wind and waves" using engineering mechanics models, we construct a scientific marine aquaculture management model that balances fisheries economics with marine debris reduction.
II. Marine Ecological Impact Events and Engineering Compensation Assessment
-
In response to sudden marine turbidity events, we execute scientific assessments of water quality changes and ecological impacts to clarify environmental variation factors.
-
Regarding large-scale hydraulic construction such as naval port expansion projects, the Center constructs rigorous "fisheries impact and ecological loss assessment models" to provide scientific and impartial fisheries compensation and ecological restoration countermeasures, balancing national defense construction with local fishing rights.
III. Marine Habitat Improvement and International Conservation Exchange
-
Targeting the habitat characteristics and fisheries resource structures of the waters around Lieyu Township, Kinmen County, we execute scientific "feasibility assessments for artificial reef deployment" to optimize benthic ecological upwelling effects.
-
We actively undertake international exchange projects focused on marine conservation, aligning our frontline ecological monitoring and governance outcomes with international organizations and multilateral exchange forums to enhance Taiwan's substantive influence in international marine conservation affairs.
