The Center was established on March 31, 2023 (ROC Year 112), pursuant to the resolution passed during the 2nd Research Center Management Committee Meeting of National Sun Yat-sen University in 2023.
The Center aims to promote the sustainable development of Taiwan's marine "Three Lives" (ecology, production, and life). "Sustainable development" refers to meeting the needs of the present generation without compromising the welfare and rights of future generations. It encompasses minimizing harm to the environment, ensuring economic profitability, and fostering social prosperity and fairness. By integrating natural and social sciences, the Center connects research and educational resources to assist governments in promoting sustainable marine development and cultivating talent.
